Some movies indeed have long term effects on people mind specially those movies which are based on facts and true stories , the fact that they are based on real events shakes you from your core and you start questioning yourself , are we really “ashraf ul makhlooqat” ?
Madrassas or Churches
Yesterday I watched movie “Spotlight” released in 2015 as we all are quarantined why not watch amazing movies. This movie is based on how the “Fathers” from different churches rape young children and nobody even dare to discuss about it because it is the most sensitive issue, people are so connected to their religion it is impossible for them to digest that Pope, fathers, Molvies can do such things.
In 2001, editor Marty Baron of The Boston Globe assigns a team of journalists to investigate allegations against John Geoghan, an unfrocked priest accused of molesting more than 80 boys. Led by editor Walter “Robby” Robinson (Michael Keaton), reporters Michael Rezendes (Mark Ruffalo), Matt Carroll and Sacha Pfeiffer interview victims and try to unseal sensitive documents. The reporters make it their mission to provide proof of a cover-up of sexual abuse within the Roman Catholic Church.
After watching this movie my mind raised many questions like, why Pakistani Media is not talking about it? Why Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Party is more interested to ban Zindagi Tamasha movie rather than taking action on those molvies whom are convicted of raping young children? Do these religious people have such power to silence media? Does any religion teaches to suppress the victim? Why these Powerful Religious people have influence on law and justice? Does people like Khadim Rizvi are a role model for Madrassa students?
Do we know our children and their mental state? What is happening in our children life? Do they share with us everything which is bothering them? Are we giving them enough comfort zone to chat with us on such issues?
Lets talk about few cases of rape by molvies in Pakistan
1) Mansehra rape case: Minor boy repeatedly raped by Madrasa teacher
A minor boy was raped repeatedly by a madrasa teacher in Mansehra. The minor boy is in critical condition.
Ten-year-old minor boy was subject to sexual abuse over a hundred times.
The madrasa teacher is being named as Shamsuddin. He along with the other three accomplices brutally raped the minor boy and subjected him to inhuman torture.
As per details received the boy started bleeding from his eyes due to repeated sexual and physical abuse.
2) Qari confesses to raping student in Rawalpindi mosque
Only one night in the police lock-up and the prayer leader accused of regularly assaulting a boy in a mosque confessed to his crime.
Sadar Baironi police had arrested Maulvi Liaquat when they come to know of the ordeal of a 12-year old boy who said the suspect repeatedly raped him at various instances. An
accusation, which even the victim’s family found hard to believe, proved right after the cops took the qari to remand room.
3) Qari caught attempting to rape 8-year-old arrested in Wah Cantt
A religious teacher, known as a qari in local lingo, was arrested on Monday after he was caught while trying to rape an eight-year-old girl in the neighbourhood of Wah Cantonment.
According to the first information report (FIR) registered with local police by the victim’s father, his daughter had gone to her religious teacher’s house to learn the holy Quran. A few minutes into the lesson, the molvi tried to rape her but stopped when she started screaming.
He then threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident, advising her to keep it a secret. However, the girl told her family about the incident when she returned home.
When the victim’s mother went to the suspect’s house after learning about the incident, other women from the area gathered there and claimed that the qari had also sexually assaulted their sons and daughters, but they had kept mum about it in fear of losing their dignity.
It is pertinent to mention here that the culprit’s brother, who has been identified as Akhtar Hussain, also teaches students.
4) Molvi Liaquat Arrested For Raping 12 Year Old Boy
In the city of Rawalpindi, Imam of a mosque has been arrested for rape of a 12-year-old boy.
As per SP Saddar Mazhar Iqbal, the young boy Jawad Zareef used to come to Dhamial Camp’s masjid to attain religious knowledge from Molvi Liaquat, the culprit.
Jawad had complained to his parents many times of his teacher’s wrongdoings but they didn’t believe him. To them, it wasn’t possible that a religious cleric could do something like this.
The SP further told that Molvi Liaquat, along with a few of his supporters, protested against this but the Police continued their investigation, and as a result of this, the Imam-e-masjid was found guilty of the unlawful deed.
5) This ‘Molvi’ Committed A Henious Act With A Child Whilst Teaching Qaeda
Well these cases might give you the idea what is really happening in Pakistan. We all learn how to read Quran from Qari, we utterly respect and regard them because they teach us how to read us the Holy Book of Islam “Quran” which makes them a saint in our perception.
However the Question is are they really a saint?
The reason Media does not give this topic a hype is because the powerful religious scholars and politicians, they do not give media freedom to discuss this issue, a 30 sec news clip cannot effect people mind. Social Media cannot always play a role for raising voice for such issues. If Social media is doing the job of the Electronic media than the third pillar should be considered as social media.
JUI is more interested to ban movie like zindagi Tamsaha, giving unnecessary dharnas. How many times did we saw any JUI members speaking for such issues? Why these issues are not important for them?
JUI should be giving heed to these issues as well.
There should be an organization, who should keep an eye on Madrassas and review there teachings, there actions and psychological state of the madrassa students.
Madrassas should be legally register and strict rule should be passed for the registrations of Madrassas and their legalization.
Parents need to play a role here to protect their children, Rather than sending their children to Madrassas ask any Qari to teach the Quran at their home and sit with your children at that time. Every week play with them and talk, ask them who was their week, who is their best friend, who the like and dislike, what makes them uncomfortable and comfortable the institute/ madrassas they go, which teacher they like and dislike, what did they learn from schools and Madrassas.
To learn about your child and their mental state is not difficult it is just a simple conversation.
